Mashati

A female Persian poet whose life is difficult to trace. She is reoprted to have lived between the 11th and 12th centuries AD, most probably in Azarbaijan.

Mashati was given the title of Dabir/Dabira ( scribe ). She is presented as a poet and singer , not a panegyrist. She is known to have mainly written quatrains, their dominating themes are the lovers complaint of the absence , lack of attention, or cruelty of his or her beloved.

An original collection of her work is not available. The current diwans are modern compilations from different sources. Mashati acquired a reputation of bawdy verse.
